A dedicated server for Trailmakers, built by players
tmds runs the headless server that ships with the game and keeps it in the server browser. Players join it like any other server and install nothing. If you came here from a server in that list, it was running on this.
This entry is a tmds server. Nobody has the game open to host it.
The game's own server browser. The one entry in it is a tmds server, and nobody has the game open to host it.
It is the game's own server
Physics, building, DLC blocks, Workshop mods and game modes behave the same as on a server somebody hosts from the game.
Listed around the clock
The entry stays in the server list when the last player leaves.
More than eight players
One game server holds eight. tmds can run several of them behind a single list entry.
Set up in a browser
It runs in Docker on a Linux machine without a display. You sign in to Steam with a QR code and the game downloads by itself.
It comes with a web panel
The panel is part of the server. It shows what is going on and lets you change things while people are playing.
A mod is a folder of JavaScript
The code runs on the server, where it reacts to events and changes the world. Players do not install anything. When you save a file, the new version is live a second later and everybody stays connected.
Somebody typed !barrel twice.!help lists the commands of every mod.
A mod can also put boxes on a player's screen, spawn objects and vehicles, save data and make web requests. The API tour in the docs goes through all of it.
Dear Flashbulb,
we have played a lot of Trailmakers, most of it together with other people. What we kept missing was a server that is still there after the host quits, a place where a community can meet and play its own game modes.
So we built tmds. It keeps a server in your server browser around the clock, and people can make minigames and whole game modes for it. The minigame server that sent you here runs on it.
Would you work with us on making tmds open source?
tmds runs the server that already ships with your game, and it only works with a copy of Trailmakers that somebody bought. Players join with the plain game. It talks to your backend the same way the Host button does. If something in there bothers you, tell us and we will change it.
So let's talk. Tell us what is fine and what is not, and let us show you what community servers could do for Trailmakers.
